Around 1993, Shibata was given the opportunity to freely photograph America at the request of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. The works, taken in an environment completely different in scale from Japan, are bold and delicate photographs.
The exhibition featured 25 images from the MCA collection, including the Grand Coulee Dam triptych, which became his representative work, printed by the artist himself. This is the photobook that contains them.
