Pounamu Kuru Pendant, Maori Greenstone Taonga

This authentic vintage Māori Pounamu pendant is carved in the long, tapering shape known as a Kuru or Roimata (Teardrop). Pounamu, or New Zealand greenstone (nephrite jade), is a sacred treasure (taonga) highly valued by the Māori people for its beauty, strength, and spiritual significance. The Kuru/Roimata shape traditionally symbolizes healing, unity, and emotional strength, often called the comfort stone. It is believed to represent shared emotions and connect the wearer to the land and ancestors. Pounamu pieces are traditionally passed down, increasing in mana (prestige and power) with each generation. This piece showcases a deep, rich green color with natural variations and includes a simple black cord.

The pendant measures 90mm long by 25mm wide and 7mm thick at the end. It has a substantial weight of 27.25 grams and is unmarked, as is traditional.
