A live center offers extra support for lengthy, substantial, or heavy components during turning processes. It's installed in the tailstock's nose via a Morse taper connection, then moved forward to touch the part's centerline. The 60 hardened-steel point of the live center engages with a corresponding 60 countersink at the material's end, supporting the part's free end. A high-precision bearing assembly in the live center enables it to spin freely with the part while maintaining full tailstock support.
