Franciscan Desert Rose Casserole Dish w/Lid, Excellent, USA, 1960s

This is a 2.5 Qt Round Covered Casserole featuring the iconic Desert Rose pattern by Franciscan. Introduced in 1941, Desert Rose was a groundbreaking design that contrasted traditional European bone china and became one of the best-selling casual tableware patterns in history. Handcrafted in the USA, this earthenware casserole with lid measures 9 3/4 inches in width from handle to handle and 4 1/2 inches in height. Despite being discontinued, the pattern remains highly sought after. The item is in used condition with some crazing but no utensil marks inside. The original vintage Desert Rose, made in California, is increasingly rare in this good condition. The earthenware mark, dating back to the early 1950s, signifies the shift from semi-porcelain to earthenware production. Hand wash only.
