Join me for a little cup of history? This porcelain set was gifted in 1920, making the origin of the piece dating from 1920 or earlier. Bottom of cup is stamped "Made in Germany" a mark used between 1891 and the early 1920's. The McKinley Tariff Act of 1891 required imports to be marked with the country of origin, hence "Made in Germany". After Germany split post-WWII, marks changed to West Germany or East Germany, so we know the set pre-dates this era. The saucer includes original 1920 label indicating it was a gift from (assuming) a Sunday school superintendent, Will Bowers - and could it be from the town of Capac, Michigan? The saucer is of non uniform shape with a bit of a wave on one side. There is a small chip on the underside of the edge. See photo. This is a very old set and considering the age, it is in excellent, well cared for condition.
