1716 Duchy of Lorraine silver Teston Jerusalem Shield of Leopold I choice AU - KM#96 This stunning 29mm choice AU bright lustrous Teston coin was minted in .734 silver purity and struck over the KM# 95 type with some detail of that design visible. Even Lorraine was simply a Duchy, the Duke Leopold I wore the title of King on his coins, claiming himself heir of Godefroy of Bouillon, former King of Jerusalem. This explains the use of a shield of Jerusalem on the reverse. Obverse: Head facing right of the Duke. Lettering: LEOP·I·D·G·D · LOT·BA·REX·IE Translation: Leopold I, for God's grace, Duke of Lorraine and Bar, King of Jerusalem. Reverse: Crowned shield of Jerusalem. Lettering: IN·TE·DOMINE SPERAVI·1716· Translation: I put my hope on you my Lord. Edge: Plaited. Provenance: ex-Civitas Galleries with ticket Reference: Listed in Standard Catalog of World Coins as KM# 96 Condition: Choice AU, highly lustrous with minor flan flaws. A Top Graded Collector’s Piece!
